A big and brutal heatwave will smother the Eastern US next week! Highs 95-100. Heat index 100-115. What really makes the #heatwave standout… the size and longevity… covering half the nation and lasting a full week for many. With all this said, the heat dome intensity will not be unprecedented.

A large heat dome will smother the eastern half of the US. Feels like temps will peak between 100-115 degrees across a huge expanse of area. Both the size and longevity of the event will be impressive - 1/2 the nation and a full week of summer swelter! But the intensity will not be unprecedented.

Next week the Eastern US will endure a large and dangerous #heatwave. NOAA forecasting 53 Million people to be impacted by extreme heat on Wednesday alone, with heat index values up to 115° in purple! The heatwave will last the entire week from Monday into the following weekend!

Tropical Brew? Deep moisture focused on a front may act as a catalyst for tropical mischief near the Southeast US coast. Chances are low for a named system, but yes, I’m saying there’s a chance. Sacre Bleu! France 🇫🇷 at 112°F beats Florida’s all-time record high of 109°! And it’s further north by 20° lat. While that may seem crazy - and the heat in France is rare - because Florida is surrounded by water and so humid, it’s tougher to reach lofty highs than it is in a drier climate.

New: Tropical Storm Arthur forms - the first of the Atlantic Season. Arthur will dump heavy rain / flooding to the northern Gulf Coast and West Florida panhandle, but miss the FL peninsula. Tropical storms during El Niños are not uncommon in June. We average about 2 per May/June during an #ElNiño.

Breaking: El Niño begins! NOAA has officially declared the start of El Niño today. After months of anticipation, the criteria has been met with East Pacific Ocean Temps rising at a record pace. The models have been consistently advertising a “historic” event, very possibly the strongest on record.

🥵 It’s not often NOAA Alerts Florida about the risk of Extreme Heat. Heck, every day feels extreme to me🤣 But NOAA has put the state in an Extreme Heat Risk in about a week from June 22-18. This is for excess humidity combined with heat bringing widespread heat index numbers to 105°-110°

Japanese Meteorological Service (JMA) didn’t plan for this… To be fair neither have the other services. That’s how off the charts these forecasts are. Now we wait to see if they verify. #ElNino
