The former, easily. The GOP has been continually hyping themselves up to pretend like they’re going to push back against all the illegal shit Trump is doing. They obviously aren’t going to do that with Trump, but they will with Vance - they aren’t afraid of him, and he has no real base.

We’re headed for the first shutdown since the last time Trump was in office. The framing of trying to give Medicaid to illegals is absolute nonsense. The average family of four is paying up to *$1500* a month on the insurance marketplace. Dems wanted to help. GOP refused.

This is a good way to frame it, on a night when most are framing it the wrong way:

Trump got maneuvered by Bibi into arbitrarily attacking Iran while they were engaging in talks, with no evidence they are actively developing a bomb, after changing his mind several times, without consulting Congress. But GOP lawmakers praised his "decisiveness."

Progressives get steamrolled all the time in Congress. We are an outnumbered bloc, especially on matters of defense. Shouldn’t be hard. They know this isn’t “lefty” opposition. It is BROAD opposition from the American people across the board. The numbers show that. That’s why they’re pushing it.

This didn’t happen overnight. Congress has abstained from its Constitutional role for decades, in declaration, yes, but far more importantly, in oversight and influence on use of force. Too much media has absorbed this as a norm (never mind the portion that seems to exist as CENTCOM public affairs)2

Much as I would not dare to predict the consequences of this war, I do think we can summarize it thusly so far: A smart and evil man manipulated a stupid and evil man into a war against a fanatical and evil regime.

I am looking for congressional leaders to come out quickly and forcefully against this. We need unequivocal opposition. We need theatric demonstrations of defiance. We need to see leadership. Trump will steamroll us all if we display weakness. Where are our leaders?

This is not about the merits of Iran’s nuclear program. No president has the authority to bomb another country that does not pose an imminent threat to the US without the approval of Congress. This is an unambiguous impeachable offense.
