It is a dark time, and we all need to show up across the board. We can all do more. To see our trans friends and family is to support them. Find a new way to do that for the people around you.

You can donate to organizations fighting to stop a bevy of transphobic laws like bathroom bans. You can check out policies in your workplace and make sure that your trans colleagues have what they need. You can give mutual aid to support local trans folks who absolutely need your support.

On Trans Day of Visibility, I would encourage every ally to take a look at your life - your workplace, your community - & ask what can you do differently to support the trans folks in your life. Maybe it's making sure orgs have supportive policies. Maybe it's writing letters to your local lawmakers.

It's Trans Day of Visibility today. If you're trans and are raising money for something (I don't care what it is), reply to this thread and I will boost you. If you are a cis person, take a look and find someone to support if you can. Everyone give this a share after.

The actual reality of whatβs going on with NASA is a real trip when juxtaposed with what a hit the NASA-saturated βProject Hail Maryβ film seems to be. I wonder how many people who enjoyed the film are aware of just how much this admin has shanked all the cool real-world research it featured.

25 years of social conditioning to follow ridiculous security theater demands + most white americans who see a nervous brown person in an airport being predisposed to jump right to the racistest thought they have in their tank is a bad combo for anyone at risk who needs to fly.

A classic anti-masker tactic is to claim that if you don't wear a mask 100% of the time, it isn't worth it. Untrue. Every single time you wear a mask, you reduce the chances for viruses to spread. Wearing a mask always improves public health, even if you only do it occasionally.

just want to note that the usps workers' rights have been absolutely gutted. they have a 90% turnover rate within the first three months, and workers are often expected to work 7 days a week, 10+ hrs a day. oh, and sundays? they deliver for amazon (which you can see in the image below actually).

When we talk about genocides in the U.S., there are the many genocides of tribal nations that have been ongoing for centuries. There is also the genocide of Black people, the conditions of which have never gone away. This can be useful historical context for things happening now.

I'm going to expand this statement to say that astronomers should actually look at their data whatever the format. Yes pipelines and high level science products are great, but you learn a lot from just spending some time exploring the counts-on-pixels images, even for spectroscopy. π

While Republicans fully support Trump's war with Iran, Democratic leaders do not oppose it. There is no effective opposition. Hakeem Jeffries is merely demanding that the administration "must explain itself to the American people and Congress" and "provide an ironclad justification."

ICYMI, the state of Kansas just invalidated the drivers licenses of 1,000+ ppl whose gender markers did not match their assigned sex at birth. These markers had been legally changed. There was no grace period. It's now illegal for them to drive to the DMV to get a new license (w/ incorrect gender).

Mainstream reporters are desperate not to cover what's happening to trans ppl in the US. The narrative was activists got a little too uppity and some mild hand smacking was needed to put them in their place. The reality of a genocidal campaign of terror against a vulnerable 1% makes them look bad.
