Creators of art (be they books, shows, movies, music, illustration, etc ) have historically put distance between themselves and their audience for this very reason. And that used to be easier. Before social media, it was nearly impossible to contact famous artists directly.

People call it "the price of fame," while actively, voraciously consuming the art of said famous person, become emotionally invested in said art, then feel entitled not only to more of it, but more in a way that specifically satisfies *them.* And they will lose all fucking decorum demanding it.

In my experience, creative types are often -- though definitely not exclusively -- neurodivergent, and are less well equipped to deal with constant, intense critique. But even then, neurotypical people will struggle to handle thousands of people actively deconstructing them. Because that's insane.
