People got really angry at me when I wrote this on Mastodon a few years ago, but it's true: post-consumer plastic recycling is functionally a myth, not just in the U.S. but globally. Odds are vanishingly close to zero that your plastic, faithfully put in the recycling bin, will ever be recycled.

This is pretty shockingly evil. Wild (if not surprising) that Washington does this while maintaining that Cuba is a threat to the USA.

Ah, once again Bluesky discourse that completely ignores that this site is mostly populated by westerners, and that the 'Bad Place' still has a massive number of people from the global south. Doesn't make Twitter 'good' or 'better', but I never hear westerners even reckon with that fact here.
