if you're an nba player in the middle of a game, i think what you really need to do is take a long, hard look at the basketball. every game has got one. figure out who has it, and what you need to do to get hold of it. put it through the basket and you could score yourself two points, maybe more

Jazz OTD: The great dueling tenor saxophonists Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis and Johnny Griffin recorded their January 6, 1961 sets at Minton's Playhouse, releasing them over 3 (I believe) original LPs, though they've been repackaged over the years. Wonderful pyrotechnics by two of the best.

There’s a reason you usually see 4’33 done with a piano. It doesn’t work on guitar. After 10 seconds the performer would start trying to check that their strings are still in tune before moving on to absentmindedly playing Wonderwall.

I am struggling with what might be a generational experience. The gulf war was pretty politically formative for me. It’s not history so much as memory this time. It is destabilizing to see almost the exact same gameplan but this time without the guardrails that at the time I took for granted.
