I keep coming back to this post because it is so absurd. John Lewis forgave George Wallace, not Bull Connor, many years later because he came to Lewis and asked for forgiveness. Lewis believed he had real remorse and forgave him. Trump has never apologized and is actively gearing up for war.

Ross's "conservatives must be above informal judgment, or else" goes hand in hand with Trump's "conservatives must be above the law, or else". If society will not accommodate them in all their unpleasantness, will not "say thank you", they would choose a state of nature & the war of all against all.

My sort of crank, not thought through theory is that as MBA brain has proliferated, management of businesses has gotten more and more divorced from the particulars of the businesses they’re managing, and CEOs’ jobs are “business” in the same way Ken’s job is “beach.”

nobody's done more to promote political violence than the GOP, but damn if the dems haven't played a huge role in creating the conditions for mass violence by absolutely choking off any sense that people can create positive change through non-violent, traditional political channels

This gets to something that as a former stand-up I recognized but couldn’t name. A 31 year old professional content creator baiting 19 year old amateurs into the format of his choice isn’t debate, it’s crowd work. It’s debate-shaped crowd work farmed for content.

Hey did y'all know that if you set your tablet to automatically back up pics and video to Google Photos, and then you decide to review the footage from the trail cam you keep out back to watch the alley cats, your tablet might try to dump all 256 GB from that SD card to your Google account?

During the Spanish Civil War it was common for people to use the war as a convenient excuse to permanently settle grievances or just straight up steal their neighbor's property. Same in Afghanistan. An environment in which someone informs on you because they covet your wife or truck...very very bad

The most striking thing about this era is how badly you're punished, constantly, just for being able to see things as they obviously are. And I'm not even talking about personal or professional consequences, just the constant psychic damage you take from knowing that 1 + 1 doesn't equal fish.
