It’s a pretty weird week when a guy who wants to be a trillionaire is simultaneously getting headlines for the economy-shattering IPO expected Friday and the racist pogroms he is accused of stoking — but these stories are viewed as separate and in no way connected or prescient of the future.

This would seem to suit the populist mythology of "out of control technology controlled by shadowy elites." This has the secondary purpose of reinforcing other populist fables of untrustworthy and impotent authorities and adds a boost to the hostile rhetoric of anti-science.

I know it's a silly jokey joke, but people REALLY need to stop anthropomorphizing their boyfriends. "My boyfriend told me" your boyfriend didn't "tell" you anything. "My boyfriend thinks..." your boyfriend can't actually think or feel; just output a convincing simulation of it based on probability 🙄

Even when journalists reference Hanson’s past comments on Muslims, they reach back to 2016. Why not just mention the case from 2025, that is currently in front of the High Court? Surely the entire media industry isn’t unaware of the case? So what’s the reason?

I've been tracking the spread of nonconsensual deepfakes on X for more than two years. Here's a timeline of how Musk's leadership allowed the practice to flourish from a once-underground market to a viral trend, with little recourse for victims or legal enforcement.

Regardless of the merits of the issue the social media ban is indefensibly poor policymaking and legislation, it's a corporate quid pro quo with News, and the public have been asked to pay for the victory lap.

It’s crazy that the marketing wing of an Aussie gambling company runs a large platform dedicated to radicalising teen boys into the alt-right pipeline as a way to get the kids illegally gambling, and it doesn’t get any coverage in Aussie media

I first reported on this story in 2019, and I have doggedly pursued it since. It involved many hours, often unpaid, and it may not have won me any awards, but I remain fiercely proud of this work. There's not many who can say their reporting helped get a community uranium-free drinking water.
