One thing the mayor-elect could do between now and January 1 is to call on Kathy Hochul to veto the bill on her desk that would ban one-person train operations in the NYC subway. Mamdani was absent the day of the vote, and banning OPTO is incompatible with lower cost (or free) transit.

I'm so fascinated by people who oppose Prop 6, they all seem to live in a world where most voters are engaged and reading the news which... lol

The number of "keep elections in odd years because the dumb people don't vote in them and they would ruin it if they did" takes I'm seeing about Prop 6 are driving me insane. There are good arguments against it, but not that – either you believe in a democracy where everyone gets a say or not!

I think he doesn’t want to start his time in office by picking a fight with City Council. But endorsing yes would’ve been a pick lift for a rudderless yes movement and being mayor means making tough choices. It was a bad answer.

As I've said, I actually support the limits on micromobility, but they have to be paired with ones that are the same or slower for cars. I've long called for 20 across the board on anything that moves in NYC. A system that vilifies ebikes and suggests we're more dangerous than cars is insane.

NYC streets, even the "small" side streets, are ridiculously wide. Most single lanes on two-way streets could easily fit two cars side by side. Someone with a little vision could turn these into beautiful calm boulevards. Look at all the space for shade trees!

I feel like we’re going through a crisis of credulity as a culture. You can see it with this, you can see it with woo, and you can see it with AI. Nobody’s willing to stand up and say “this is stupid, what are you talking about?”, so people keep spinning out of control.
