Something I didn’t get into in this story, but is probably worth dicussing: Younes’ current employer, the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, endorsed her fringe COVID positions in its press release announcing her employment.

Stewart has had some bad public health takes. In 2005, he interviewed Robert Kennedy Jr. and thanked him for raising awareness about vaccines and autism. Years ago, he endorsed the COVID lab leak theory. More recently, he joked about people still masking in public for their health.

Younes herself is an ally of the NIH director and other Trump officials. During her Daily Show appearance, she positioned herself as a neutral observer, surprised by how bad stuff has gotten under Trump, while also kinda blaming Biden for it because he also engaged in “censorship.”

Younes has also written for the Brownstone Institute, an influential anti-science group that has become a clearinghouse for anti-vax and other misinformation. The group is allied with Kennedy and has ties to the highest levels of HHS, including the NIH director, FDA commissioner, and others.

Younes fought a couple lawsuits against the Biden administration, alleging it was involved in a censorship scheme to silence dissent on issues like COVID. Both cases are meritless. She also worked for Jim Jordan’s subcommittee on the “weaponization of government,” which leveled similar charges.

She spent years as @leftylockdowns1 on Twitter, attacking public health efforts to slow the spread of COVID. She is also a lab leak proponent and has suggested that the mRNA vaccines are unsafe and unnecessary for young people. She supported Robert Kennedy Jr.’s nomination for HHS secretary.

Younes worked for the right-wing lawfare group New Civil Liberties Alliance, which fights supposed federal overreach—stuff like the EPA’s ability to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and the CDC eviction moratorium. There, she waged war on COVID mitigation policies, including vaccine requirements.

NEW: This week, Daily Show host Jon Stewart introduced his audience to Jenin Younes, describing her as a courageous civil rights attorney who had been canceled by both the right and left and therefore “must be doing something right.” Really, she spent years undermining public health—and Democrats.
