Ah, Andy Burnham has won the by-election in Manchester, beating Reform with some ease after all. That puts him in the position he wanted to be to challenge and replace Starmer. www.bbc.com/news/live/c3...

It now seems beyond any doubt that Burnham will be prime minister soon. Labour MPs will look at that result - the consolidation of the progressive vote, the swathes of ex-Reform voters returning to Labour - and they won’t be able to wait long.

Not just is Burnham particularly popular among Labour voters, but in the North West as a whole his favourability ratings are 51% to 29%. Not just net positive, but clearly so. Very rare.
