On Friday, the Tribune Editorial Board raised concerns about Ald. Quinn's decoy ADU ordinance, which includes a provision requiring contractors building ADUs to participate in apprenticeship programs.

Editorial: Keep union politics out of solving Chicago’s housing crisis
The city shouldn’t tell homeowners whom to hire to build a coach house.

Ald. Quinn is fighting ADUs tooth and nail. His latest strategy? A decoy ordinance 🦆 which would allow individual alders to completely ban ADUs in their ward. 😱 Please CALL ☎️ your alder and express your strong support for Ald. Lawson's ADU ordinance. 🏘️

Would you like to add a small shop or restaurant to the front of your home, which is on a commercial corridor? Cities for 5,000 years: Sure, whatever. Why are you asking me? It's your house. Cities for the last 100 years: Are you crazy? Have you lost your mind? Absolutely not.

Did you know? 805 people of only 4 precincts voted in 2006 to downzone the west side of Broadway to BLOCK any buildings more than 4 stories. 805 out of ~60K 48th ward residents. A whopping 1.3%. Now they're back as "ERRD." Don't fall for it! Upzone Broadway in

We all know ‘tragedy’ comes from Greek. ‘tragos’ = goat ‘aeidein’ = to sing So ‘tragedy’ originally meant “goat song.” Not to be confused with the GOAT song, which is probably “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman.

none of the gotcha examples of "out-of-control scientific spending" bother me in the slightest. isn't science about finding shit out? "they spent a million dollars of taxpayer money to see if they could make mice sexier" okay, well, what was the answer? I want to know too

This isn’t about the bears specifically, I could have said lakeview taco fest or standup comedy downtown. It’s about people being bored and disconnected makes them more likely to be fringe, radicalized weirdos. Not the only factor but an important one.

This should be physically impossible. A street with as much pedestrian and transit activity as this *cannot* be designed in a way that allows a speed that can lead to this horrific mess.
