This comment was on a story about the pending(?) closure of Coventry Airport, focused on Air Atlantique and led with an image of a DC-6 (I think?). It puts into words something I’ve been thinking for some time and feels equally applicable to the sale of a historic aircraft.

I've taken the paywall off this eulogy I wrote for my magical, mysterious ex-stray cat George - who died last year - in case anybody would like a read. It was very, very hard to write but I think it might be my favourite thing I’ve ever written about cats.

IMPORTANT: When transporting a giant puffball mushroom you have recently foraged, it is absolutely crucial that you ensure the mushroom is firmly strapped into the passenger seat of your car to guard against sharp braking and potential whiplash

“What is that in your bed?” “It’s a puffball mushroom I foraged.” “Why is it there?” “I was worried it had got cold and sad.” “But you’re going to eat it soon anyway.” “The fact that we all have to die at some point doesn’t mean we should not live well, in comfort, beforehand.”

Good facts about squirrels' tails I have learned: 1. Squirrels can fan out their tails, turn them around and use them as umbrellas when it’s raining. 2. Squirrels have occasionally been known to use their tails as rafts, to help them cross rivers.

Aftet the election in New York I saw a lot of doom and gloom posts lamenting the imminent death of the city and how AWFUL the Mayor-elect was. After his meeting with Trump I’m curious to see if those people do a 180.

Cool: getting a 50+year old model kit you’ve wanted for a long time, in this case the Frog 1/72 Westland Wyvern. Less cool: the fact decals age. This could get interesting. Just taking off the wax paper was painful!

The Blu-Tack and Maskol technique worked a treat, although I need to do some touch-ups and mask was rough to apply. I remembered that RNZAF Canberras probably had hard-edge camo, but this has been more of a learning build than an all-out accuracy hunt. Airfix 1/72 Canberra B(I).12

I felt lucky to watch the Luftwaffe Airbus A321 15+10 on finals over the house on Saturday. It was a lovely day for it. I’ve been really enjoying seeing this and the two A400Ms from our house and just haven’t felt the need to try photograph them. Just experiencing it is nice.

Fun(?) times and good progress on the model bench today. The Corsair and Sikorsky are done, and the Canberra’s almost ready for paint. The fit and accuracy of the Ventura are making me want to find a Frogspawn one.

After replenishing my paint stocks it’s back into the Hasegawa 1/72 Corsair. Finding a match for Glossy Sea Blue with Tamiya acrylics has been a bit hit or miss but it’s all valuable learning and experience for future models that mean a bit more.

It takes a lot for me to throw away a model kit, but this one met whatever requirements I had at the time. Life’s too short! I now have the Hasegawa F4U-1D and Airfix Canberra B(I)8 (both 1/72) on the bench and am having a wonderful time!
