It would be really cool if abled folks would signal boost us more or team up with us to help raise awareness of struggles we're facing, share our stories and larger issues around eugenics and attacks on disability rights and the continued need for COVID caution etc. I wish we had allies like that.

This is evil. Wheelchairs cost hundreds to thousands of dollars and are often customized to one person. Loss of mobility means loss of income, mental health, healthcare. This is eugenics. Remember: anyone can become disabled at any time. The folks in charge haven’t forgotten. They weaponize it.

There should really be an Empathy 101 course taught to people at some point because wow do most people have no idea how to offer support without being toxic positive, dismissive, and/or invalidating. Then get defensive when you notice. Just some basic active listening and validation goes a long way.

Getting pain and injured by my mobility and accessibility devices is really fun on top of losing my ability to walk. Plus all the money I'm spending and hours of research with no doctors who are willing to help me figure it out. And I'm super sensitive and easily injured. Really great.

Not every disabled person has just one disability. That's one of the reasons I don't like the "person with a disability" language. I have like twenty. Health issues can be complex and impact multiple functions and cause various symptoms and conditions can co-occur and you can have multiple at once.

I will say that the best thing that I've taught myself lately is not to give so many chances. I try to be good faith and maybe I'll give some feedback once but if things aren't a good fit I let them go. I can't change people and I don't want to. Even if it means I'm alone, I need to protect myself.

People will not stop asking me if I'm going to get better. It's CHRONIC illness. I have a DEGENERATIVE condition. Best case some symptoms calm temporarily or progress slows. That isn't for sure and is a new possibility for me but so far meds aren't working. Just let me be sick. This is not support.

I don't know when I'll really finally learn that people do not want to talk to me. If they do talk to me it's with the expectation they'll get to push hope and positivity on me or try to help or fix me. Or ignore my illnesses. Nobody wants to be friends with somebody as sick and depressed as me.

One of the reasons I don't actually talk about my pain and the severity of my illnesses often is because almost every time I do I get shut down by whoever I open up to. I get dismissed, unsolicited advice, annoyance, toxic positivity, impatience, blamed. It's so difficult on top of the pain itself.

Talking to white cis straight abled men about politics and identity is one of my least favorite things. Why do I do this to myself? Most are so sure they're right about everything and don't actually want to hear other perspectives, especially marginalized ones, even if they claim to be left leaning.

I actually crave desperately to get back to good health and to a boring 9 to 5 job. It is immensely easier to be healthy and working than having to survive two chronic illnesses, one incurable, and all the dehumanisation. Fighting for human rights and survival as a chronically ill person is brutal.

I know that I focus so much on friend drama and interpersonal stuff because the realities of my health and the world are too hard to think about. Maybe I've always retreated into connections for that reason and even having bad ones at least is a distraction and I desperately need that right now.

Finally! I found a real estate agent with some training in ADA! It should not have been this hard. Not only did others have no training but had no idea at all what things to consider for wheelchairs and general accessibility. I feel like they should all at least know some basics as a licensed agent.

It's honestly sad to me how many people struggle to be open emotionally and hold space for others. I get why that can happen but what isn't ok is when they blame me for having trouble handling it. They make it my fault, I'm too needy or emotional, when they are objectively being cold and withdrawn.

I'm disheartened by how few real state agents I've contacted know anything about wheelchair accessibility. And have phoned it in or been unwilling to educate themselves. Also one just said they're willing to mask for us but used the phrase "during Covid" so...I don't know. I can't navigate this.
