Today’s autism announcement was just as bad as we feared Trump blamed Tylenol & vaccines for autism They encouraged women to just “tough out” their pain They praised people who don’t “need” meds or vaccines These are eugenicist talking points & they’re devastating to the disability community:

We saw non-autistic parents of autistic kids speak at the event today. Non-disabled parents can do things harmful to their kids' disabilities, unfortunately.

Autistic people speak for their own community. Non-autistic parents of autistic kids are adjacent to the community, but they're not *the* community. Interviewing a disabled parent of disabled kids is always a good perspective, though.

A reminder to follow journalists, today and every day. If you say you're going to have disability representation in an article on a disability topic, interview a disabled person, not a non-disabled parent. Their perspectives don't count as disability representation.

In addition to all the ableism, blaming moms for taking tylenol during pregnancy or vaccinating their children definitely feels like a recycled version of the "refrigerator mom" theory of autism. Every single day under this administration I have been reminded of why disability history matters.

Leucavorin is filinic acid which is a form of folate but it is not the same thing as folic acid. That distinction will be lost on the public when the grifters start pushing folic acid. Going forward, mother's if autistic children will be blamed for not taking it despite no evidence that it works.

Do you understand that a huge portion of the wellness podcaster and influencer community is now going to be paid to push folic acid as a treatment for autism despite no actual evidence for it. This is a windfall for the supplements industry. It's all a grift.
