I agree with this. As a first gen student who went to regional uni and teach at a regional uni, I often think there’s a big disconnect with those who went elite public/private. One example was an ivy prof on here making a comment that most social sciences professors make 100k.

Really important to stress that the Crown Jewels of the US higher education system were never the Ivies or elite SLACs (other countries have equivalents of these) but the well-funded, large, cheap, and excellently staffed public state university systems bringing high quality education to the masses.

ED has never considered these degrees to be professional, instead relying on a tiny list put together decades ago (that they barely changed in 2025). It's just that the graduate/professional distinction never really mattered for accessing federal student loans until now.
