One of the patterns I have realized in reactions to the last Nature metascience papers is that many seem to observe an increase in reproducibility/replicability estimates and perceive it as a sign of progress. I regret to inform you that the variability is too high to support that conclusion.

Sam's a tough cookie but I wouldn't wish this kind of pushback on anyone. We should avoid platforms where people behave negatively, as he describes.

A classic mistake: believing we need to teach students how to use the latest technology when really what has always been true is we need to teach students how to maximize their own potential. A student who can do that will be able to use any technology.

Every new technology brings with it the need to learn new norms and practices to use it effectively and avoid dangers. These norms and practices are not obvious or intuitive, but they can and must be taught and learned.

I’m a fan of this blog. And this one highlights the importance of going back and checking how reliable your sources are. No source is going to get it right every time, but they should do so enough to help you make good decisions. If not - dump ‘em. And I love the Roger Federer quote at the end.

#GenAI is accelerating the demise of social media as a source for reliable information. The incentives for misleading people and the increasing ease of creating convincing video will force users to curate their information sources rather than assuming reliable information will be pushed to them.
