Why are basic cyber security controls so effective? There's no inherent reason the complexity of a control should affect its effectiveness. In fact, I'd expect fancier controls to provide better security than basic ones.

the thing about books is that, if you go back to the book to look at it again, it will give you the same answer it gave you the first time. This is an important quality in sources! Even Wikipedia, which *can* be updated, preserves its edit history!
