THIS. Do I worry about the effects of social media on my 11-year-old? Obviously yes. Do I think she should be banned from it any more than young men falling into the manosphere on Reddit, middle-aged ladies being dragged into transphobia on Mumsnet, or pensioners radicalised by Facebook? 100% no.

Generally speaking: Intentions guide expectations, which then determine whether there is wasted time. More specifically: When someone continually behaves out of alignment with their stated intention, they fail to meet the other person's developed expectations, thereby wasting that person's time.

"If this were happening to any other community" is a way of cutting off coalition between minority groups negatively affected by human rights decay. In effect if not intent, it functions to collude in that very decay by foreclosing on the potential for anything other than isolationist affirmation.

Also: It’s just not true. The same anti trans activists and groups are also spreading Islamophobia, racism, misogyny, running anti abortion campaigns and the rest. This universal targeting of “othered” groups is the point. Thats how fascism works!

I do sometimes worry that all the worried headscratching about youth unemployment might be missing the point. Everyone is always talking about how it relates to the education or welfare systems, no one wants to say "well the economy just produces far fewer entry level jobs than it once did"

To me this is by far the top explanation for Gen Z nihilism. If you don't brand and commodify every aspect of your life, you're falling behind. If you're not getting one over on the next guy in crypto or prediction markets, you're a sucker. Beyond Marx's alienation of labor--alienation of personhood

In the fantasy world of total automation, owners of AI can make the world go around without *any* of us, which means that we will exist solely at their sufferance, and will therefore have to act like the NPCs they half-believe we are already, organizing everything we do around their priorities. 44/

It's amazing how people who have no interest in funding their states and communities nonetheless cannot quit preferring the amenities of better-funded states/ communities. I think we've found the burdensome freeloaders who feel entitled to take without contributing.

A lot of attention is paid to craft traditions in Western Europe and North America, such as handsewn Hermes leather goods and bespoke Savile Row suits. But the uneven focus leads some to believe that things made outside of these places are low quality. This is not true. 🧵

The people who mock the idea of "six genders" aren't prepared for my take. How many genders are there? I think there's as many genders as there are people. Gender is a spectrum. No two women are the same. No two men are the same. Etc. There's shades of gender, like color.

If they want to repeal transfer taxes for new construction in order to stimulate the economy, there's an argument. Repealing transfer taxes for huge landowners to sell portfolios back & forth to each other doesn't seem like it's stimulating any other economic activity to benefit the rest of us.

Is the proposal to slash taxes on big real-estate deals a bad idea? Not necessarily. Are its backers being honest about it? Not necessarily.

Basically, AI companies are hoping to get us all hooked on their products before the bills come due so they can jack up token prices. Pesky people asking questions and pointing out stuff that doesn't work are ruining the whole plan and it's very rude of them.
