The Carney speech is v good. More generally, I think it’s important that the UK & EU recognise that this is a new world. And waiting for the mid-terms or 2028 and things to get back to ‘normal’ isn’t good enough. Need to build the capacity & resilience to be less reliant on the US for security.

I wrote this last year on Five Eyes, the world’s deepest intelligence relationship. Cooperation is so built in that none of the countries really have working global signals intelligence if it collapses. That risk looked distant last March. Given Greenland, it now looks distinctly more possible.

Europe will either stand up to Trump or he will keep using them as his plaything. As long as Macron, Merz et al continue to kiss his ass and appease him, he will continue to treat them like shit. He may treat them like shit either way, but at least they can retain some dignity.

The Australians are *very* dependent on the US and UK for information re: Moscow. A Canberra security contact told me last year that when it came to cybersecurity, there was now much less info on Russia flowing from the US.
