Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care unit nurse was shot and killed by federal agents in Minneapolis, on January 24. DHS claims he died after an armed struggle, but videos of the incident appears to contradict that claim. Read our analysis here:

BREAKING: A young doctor who lives near where Alex Pretti, a nurse, was killed by ICE says in a declaration he saw the shooting, went out to help, was not let through at first then patted down before being let by, and was apparently the first to try and provide any medical assistance to Pretti.

You have to read this. Firsthand affidavit from one of the women who was there and recording the video. She talks about how Alex Pretti was directing traffic when she arrived. She watched him be killed in front of her. She's afraid to go home, worried she'll be arrested.

After the first shots are fired, the man collapses on the ground. Agents back away. At least another 5 shots are fired toward the man who is already incapacitated on the ground.

Two different agents are visibly firing their guns, with at least 10 shots being heard in total. Most of them are fired after a brief delay, when the man is already lying motionless on the ground. The current videos of the shooting only show these two agents with guns drawn.

Great read on some basic ideas in psychometrics. This quote was great, and reminded me of a stress induction that
@jonasdora.bsky.social
used. People told to think of a mild stressor reported everything from being cut off in traffic to a home invasion that caused them to move!

I only argue for more mathematical & statistical rigor in our field because I believe our science requires it. I go through fits every time I try to learn a new math/stats thing. I find the whole ordeal very unpleasant. But it's like working out, this is the way to make our body (our field) strong.

we will see what happens, but I think that it's a quite likely outcome. The GRE was (and is) biased, but it's likely less biased than personal statements (based on mentorship in writing), lines on someone's CV (based on access to opportunity), and recommendation letters

made such a good case for a really fundamental and devastating realization-if we can’t show thar our measures are measuring what they are suppose to be measuring-then everything after the methods section in a paper is meaningless. This should give us all pause and reflection

Psychology really needs to go back to square 1 on measurement. Even the major replications haven’t taken the lack of valid measures seriously. We are making up questions and questionnaires daily w/o validating constructs or tasks. This means our foundation is seriously shaky

So, now that GRExit is over and the GRE is gone, is your program continuing conversations about reducing bias in graduate admissions? Is there a systematic evaluation of other practices, like letters of recommendation, access to prior lab experience, weighing UG institution? If not, why not?
