Fear of Suicide, Control, and Effective Hospitalizations
The presumed effectiveness of psychiatric inpatient care for suicide risk is being reconsidered; research shows that such care is often lacking and must become more evidence-based.

Excited for this viewpoint! Measurement is the foundation of what we do, and we need to be thoughtful about what weāre measuring.

we will see what happens, but I think that it's a quite likely outcome. The GRE was (and is) biased, but it's likely less biased than personal statements (based on mentorship in writing), lines on someone's CV (based on access to opportunity), and recommendation letters

made such a good case for a really fundamental and devastating realization-if we canāt show thar our measures are measuring what they are suppose to be measuring-then everything after the methods section in a paper is meaningless. This should give us all pause and reflection

Psychology really needs to go back to square 1 on measurement. Even the major replications havenāt taken the lack of valid measures seriously. We are making up questions and questionnaires daily w/o validating constructs or tasks. This means our foundation is seriously shaky

So, now that GRExit is over and the GRE is gone, is your program continuing conversations about reducing bias in graduate admissions? Is there a systematic evaluation of other practices, like letters of recommendation, access to prior lab experience, weighing UG institution? If not, why not?

Thatās the core problem with every analysis method thatās a little bit complex. Just running it gives your whole study a veneer of sophistication. I cringe in peer review a lot.

I have found this especially difficult as a trainee when Iām often learning as I go - I rarely feel I know enough at the start of a project to provide a specific enough preregistration to be very useful.
