Faculty governance is a myth. even at my CA school, admin make the final call always, but then emphasize that they listen to input and agree with faculty most of the time, which is not the same thing As true shared governance.

Prompted by my closeout paperwork on my R21, I’m wondering if anyone has a polite way to say “we haven’t published the primary aims yet because I value doing science well even if it’s beyond the grant funding period”?

The described surveillance and censorship in this article is appalling and astounding.

Being denied the means of bodily transition is a core facet of this, but so is constant vilification in media, the ostracism and censure by unsupportive peers and family, and the resultant abuse that frequently spills over into actual violence. Society is trying to make living as trans impossible.

I'm tired of the framing of trans suicides as an entirely internal struggle detached from the realities of a deeply hostile culture hell-bent on denying us care, dignity, and autonomy. Every trans suicide is a social murder, because you cannot ignore a society actively trying to eradicate us.

A toxic climate is almost impossible to change independently. In a healthy climate, work-life balance can be changed at the individual level.

@jay.bsky.team This app is supposed to be a safe space for trans folx. Have you considered creating an advisory group of trans folx (and paying them)? Having trans moderators is critical - the scale and insidiousness of transphobia can’t be detected as well by cis moderators.
