Quite remarkably bad article on the BBC about the rise of Elliot Anderson that somehow makes out that Newcastle were done an injustice and neglects to mention which club has developed him to where he is and who he still plays for. Amazing stuff

Mets have spent a lot of money advertising the pervert glasses in London. Whole platforms at Tottenham Court Road tube given over to groovy young women-about-town asking their pervert glasses about restaurants or whatever. Truly inspiring (for perverts who own pervert glasses)

Just an aside, but the expected new PM has announced his intention to stand on a social media site awash with racism, antisemitism, sexism and far right calls to depose the UK government - led by the site's owner.

On a side-note about Makerfield, I'd say it's a bad result for Restore Britain. Yes, they came from nowhere to third, but 6.8% is a lower proportion than the 7.4% the BNP got in 2010. For all the fuss about Restore, the ceiling for the openly racist far right still appears quite low.

The World Tonight & Crossing Continents were the last BBC programmes that dealt in depth with global affairs. Their demise says everything you need to know about priorities in British public life, which is mired more than at any time in monolingual mediocrity and insularity. You reap what you sow.

There's a bigger issue. Government always reports the money it's spending rather than the overall net benefit. The latter is more important. On this, it's significant- not least through savings to health and through reduced congestion. So it is defence of the realm. The public realm.

With the full caveat that I have never managed a govt dept, as Wes Streeting knows very well having been health secretary, investment in active travel *pays for itself many times over* in better public health outcomes etc. Cutting investment is often a false economy, as the UK knows to its cost.
