Alas, the most senior labour politician - Ethel Smith, the opposition leader of Midsomer Parish Council - found her appearance on BBC News (now owned by Lord Rothermere) arguing this point was "accidently" replaced by adverts for Poppy Power and the new Range Rover St George.

Every time I see anything about the state of parliament I'm reminded of both the Great Stink and the state of our country - Total paralysis in deciding the do anything that would make things better until it's become too unbearable for those in power.

Reading about the rapid collapse of Eastern European governments in 1989 as completely rotten and corrupt leaderships disintegrated when people realised fear was all that was holding them up. Apropos of nothing.

So many of these big institutions we are expected to trust (Met Police, BBC, NHS, Post Office) are so insular they think they are protecting themselves by surpressing scandals, but when the truth inevitably emerges it causes more harm to their reputation than being honest ever would.

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death. Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written." Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating. π§ͺπ§¬π§«

Imagine how transformational 3 hours of free electricity could be, especially for those on the lowest incomes (e.g. retired pensioners, unemployed, full time carers)? No need to worry about heating their house, running the washer/dryer, running the oven to make a hot meal, filling t'hot water tank.

Are temporary path closure notices limited to 6 months? Seems somewhat daft we keep getting signs up saying paths are going to be closed for 6 months, while all the press releases have been saying it's at least 14 months from day 1.

Millennials, want to feel old? In the mid 1990s our local "Gold" radio stations played the "best of the 60s, 70s, and today". If it had moved forward with the years it would now be on the 90s, 00s, and today. For a 13 year old the 1980s are as far away as the 1950s were when I was 13 in '95! π΄

"There is no doubt that the impact of Brexit has been severe and long-lasting" The first step to fixing a problem is admitting there is one. At the rate we are going when we rejoin the EU we'll inevitably be net recipients of ERDF monies to bring our national infrastructure up to modern standards.
