As part of Operation Organise My Digital Workspace, I just dragged a swathe of Google Drive documents into a newly created folder and in the process discovered well over half of them were not draggable 😭 So if someone shares a doc with you, you can't put it in a folder on your own drive? REALLY?

A learner asked me to check the Welsh of a document they'd written and I was delighted to see misspellings. Why? Because misspellings happen when you're writing! They do not happen when you're copying & pasting from an online dictionary or Google Translate. The *quality* of errors is so important.

Remember the bad old days of getting bills in the post and having to file them? What a drag! Now I simply get an email telling me I've got a bill and I simply log in (after a failed attempt or two) simply navigate to My Bills, then View Bills, then download the right one and give it a filename.

My partner is having a real-life "who moved my cheese?" situation as our local Asda moves everything round for Christmas and all the normal stuff you actually want is hidden. I would like Christmas a *lot* more if untimely festive nonsense didn't make unrelated aspects of my life harder.

When a chatbot gets something wrong, it’s not because it made an error. It’s because on that roll of the dice, it happened to string together a group of words that, when read by a human, represents something false. But it was working entirely as designed. It was supposed to make a sentence & it did.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

I read a novel with a homophone error ("to"/"too") in the first line of the text. One of those ones that credit all the editorial staff at the end, so you know exactly who let it past. If it was me I'd be changing my name, profession and first language.

Documents in Google Drive keep doing this infuriating thing where they stop bothering to style links, so I have to manually colour them blue and underline them. It's the inconsistency that bothers me, plus the "this has been a solved problem for decades, why and how are you unsolving it?" element.
