Didn't clock that Sarah had been talking about this. This pendulum swing between elimination and containment is a long historical theme in patriarchal state societies (can't speak to non state patriarchal societies). Not just for queer people, but for sex workers and the disabled too.

it's working-class communities that are the most multicultural and it's largely white middle-class shut-ins who believe shite like this. it's also not strictly urban: the small town in rural mid-wales I lived in for a few years was very multicultural.

Yeah, I have a couple of modern albums like that and basically it’s stuff mastered way too high that literally makes the needle jump out of the groove. It’s not pressing quality as such, just that the mix isn’t correctly adjusted for the medium.

I'd heard that the quality of new vinyl is lesser than the quality of old vinyl and I can see it. Buying a new album that already skips on its first play isn't good is it.

The UK press gave trans people a reputation for being extreme and angry etc. but in fact we are way more kind than any of these people deserve. But we might not stay like that - and it's worth asking what the point is in being "nice" and "moderate", when we already have this reputation anyway.
