What an excellent article (linked to below). Brexit really is at the core of the country’s problems. Impossible that the Labour leadership don’t know this - they are clever, experienced politicians. What is astonishing is these leading figures in the UK government don’t do anything to change it.

They should not have adopted the May-Johnson redlines for their manifesto. That told us much more than intended.

Europe is hard. It’s much easier to be boorish, simplistic, populist - to insist “we should control our borders” and “they shouldn’t set our rules”. Being European means almost literally being above this - taking the hard choice, the non-easy answer, making the case for what “Europe” stands for.

I don’t know why the UK is excluded in this graphic given that the greatest achievement of Putin’s career has been Brexit which he undoubtedly bankrolled and influenced.
