In trying to avoid releasing material which may be embarrassing for the UK govt or offensive to the sensitivities of one Donald Trump, the govt has set up a process which risks hugely delaying the release of papers relating to Mandelson's appointment.

Scrapping the two child limit is not enough. The overall benefit cap must go too. The Government's own assessment shows at least 200,000 children in poverty will not be helped if only the two-child limit is removed. This cruel legacy of austerity must finally end.

The incarceration of people for months and years without trial for offences that are in essence political has no place in a democracy like ours. And in case it needed saying Greens oppose BOTH the increasing criminalisation of protest AND the removal of jury trials!

The overall benefit cap must go. It is a cruel measure that keeps hundreds of thousands in deep poverty. Instead of persisting with austerity policies such as ripping support away from Disabled people, this Labour Govt must invest in social security that truly eliminates poverty. Scrap the cap.

The govt has now pulled its watered-down Hillsborough Bill from debate - absolutely right that it go back and address huge concerns about carve-outs for the security services, but families and campaigners have been waiting long enough. Govt must pass the full law it promised.
