Happy Friday - here's what I've been up to as your MP this week!

Protecting human rights in supply chains to the UK is not only a moral obligation, but an opportunity which provides environmental and economic benefits - one which is supported by the British public and businesses alike.

UN’s climate chief: “Climate change is running rampant, caused by the world’s addiction to burning coal, oil and gas. But the solutions are equally clear: a faster shift to clean energy – which is now much cheaper than fossil fuels – as well as protecting forests and building climate resilience.”

Farmers are crucial contributors to our nation's health, security, and vitality - but they need far greater support and consistency from government in order to secure a sustainable future for the sector and adapt to the challenges of a changing climate.

It was an honour to meet with Husam Zomlot, the Palestinian Ambassador to the UK, to discuss the dire humanitarian crisis in Palestine and what more the UK Government must do to safeguard human rights and bring an end to the subjugation, occupation, and genocide of Palestinians.

My thoughts are with all those affected by the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela, and with the brave emergency workers responding to the disaster. The UK must stand in solidarity with the impacted communities as they recover and grieve.

The principle that everyone's vote counts equally should be a cornerstone of democracy - but under the current First Past The Post System, countless voters across Britain are left unrepresented. The government must act urgently to bring in proportional representation and build a fairer politics.

10 years since the Brexit vote, we need to turn the page. Billions of pounds lost, nearly 2 million jobs gone, a 6–8% hit to our economy. Enough. It's time for the Government to set out a roadmap to rejoining.

The climate crisis has huge impacts on our health & our economic security, and yet it didn’t make the G7 agenda. Why is the G7 asleep at the wheel? The next Prime Minister must ensure the UK leads on the global stage.

It's clear Starmer lost the trust of his party and country and needed to resign. The question now is if Labour has learned from his failures. Will they make the changes Britain truly needs? It's time for real action on wealth inequality, climate breakdown, cost of living, and fair votes.

Piecemeal sanctions and "guidance" regarding illegal Israeli settlements in Palestine simply do not go far enough to address repeated war crimes and human rights abuses by the Israeli govt - especially when illegal properties are being marketed at British events, as we saw last week.

Claiming that taking water into public ownership would be too expensive simply doesn't add up - given Thames Water's repair bills vastly outweigh it's market value to the tune of billions, its value is nil. It's time to end the failed experiment of privatisation and run water for public benefit.

I have added my name to the 1000+ signatories of the "roadmap for eradicating poverty beyond growth", recognising that an endless pursuit of economic growth at any cost which fails to tackle inequality or protect the planet is no true marker of "success" at all.

Sir David Attenborough has served as a lifelong champion for the natural world and of the action needed to tackle climate breakdown - it's absolutely right that his decades of work should be properly recognised💚

The government has committed to holding a summit on tackling illicit financial flows - now we need to ensure that actions are put in place which match the scale of the threat dirty money poses to our democracy and politics.

Sentencing protesters as terrorists when they have not been convicted of terrorism offences is massively concerning and flies in the face of justice. Their sentences must be reviewed.

I have written to the Minister for Women and Equalities to reflect the concerns of my constituents about the EHRC Code of Practice, and to urge her to allow a free vote on the guidance in Parliament. Trans people, like all people, deserve to live in dignity and safety - their voices must be heard.

Absolutely delighted to see the govt finally confirm the new Natural History GCSE, a long-running Green Party campaign. Now let’s make sure it truly equips young people to protect nature & tackle the climate crisis - take part in the consultation on subject content here:

Deeply concerning to see the Defence Secretary has resigned over internal defence funding disputes. As Britain faces down dire threats, from cyberwarfare to climate breakdown, the public needs to see a genuine strategic approach to security - not more division and delay.

Horrified by the attempts of bad-faith actors to use Monday's brutal attack as justification to enact violence, disorder, and the targeting of immigrants and people of colour across Belfast. Hatred has no place in the UK - nor should politicians who seek to incite it.

The Tories' proposal to scrap the Public Sector Equality Duty is utterly backwards thinking. It is not "common sense" to repeal a duty to promote equality in our public institutions - it's performative cruelty for the sake of headlines.

Unpaid carers provide vital support and prop up the NHS and care sector - yet too many are themselves left to struggle without the support they need. This #CarersWeek, I urged the govt to take action to provide greater respite care and ease the strain on unpaid carers now.

Water outages in Withington have been hugely frustrating for local residents and businesses - so it was a massive relief to hear Welsh Water commit to a undertaking full review and improvements to solve the issue at a public meeting last week.

A return to full-scale conflict between Israel and Iran will endanger countless lives, worsen humanitarian crises, and risk dragging the entire region into renewed instability. The pathway to peace will be achieved through diplomacy and deescalation, not yet more bloodshed.

Absolutely brilliant to spend a day learning more about the Warm Homes Scheme in North Herefordshire and getting to see some of the clean energy upgrades that have already been installed for a number of households in the constituency!

The proposed EHRC Code of Practice is unfit for purpose and places trans people at serious risk of violence and discrimination. It is vital that guidance protects the rights of all people to live their lives with peace, privacy, and dignity.

Henry Nowak's family deserve answers. Failures of this magnitude must never be repeated.

The Mandelson scandal must lead to a fundamental change in the political establishment's treatment of the brave women and girls who speak out about horrific abuse at the hands of men like Jeffrey Epstein - and the treatment of those who support, enable, or allow those abuses.

Happy Pride Month from the Green Party! 🏳️‍🌈

Israel's escalating military campaign in southern Lebanon has already killed thousands of people and forced more than a million from their homes. This utter disregard for civilian lives is inexcusable. We saw these patterns in Gaza - it cannot happen again in Lebanon.

Wishing all the luck to North Herefordshire's own Andy Owens and the entire Hawkstone Farmers' Choir as they compete in the Britain's Got Talent final tonight! Looking forward to another brilliant performance!

Once again the UK govt condemns Israel's actions and says they are prepared to take further action - then fail to do so. This inaction is unacceptable. Ban settlement trade, sanction Netanyahu, stop all military cooperation with Israel, punish war crimes.

On Emergency Medicine Day, we recognise the life-saving work of emergency medicine professionals working in A&Es across the UK, including all those in my local department at Wye Valley NHS Trust, who do incredible work despite the significant pressures facing the NHS. #EMday26

The latest US strikes on Iran, in the midst of a ceasefire and ongoing peace negotiations, are hugely dangerous. It is crucial that the UK do everything possible to support diplomatic efforts and pressure the US into ending this illegal war.
