Poignant Nat has died just as a tiny minority of Lords continue to frustrate progress on the legal change he fought for, supported by 75% of public. Most ordinary people felt a burden of fear lift when the Commons passed assisted dying. We feel it descending on us and those we love again right now.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of our member Nat Dye, a dedicated humanist. Like so many brave campaigners for assisted dying, he took his personal pain and bad luck and turned it into a dedication to fight for the rights of others.

I understand how strongly people feel about assisted dying. But I do think it’s really sad that respectful disagreement seems to have broken down. Esther Rantzen is terminally ill and very unwell at the moment. Is there anything we are still able to debate kindly?

We often talk about humanism in terms of people — but it also shapes how we think about other animals. Humanists try to consider how our choices and actions will impact not just other people, but other sentient animals too.

Really fascinating discussion last night with @policyatkings.bsky.social, where participants from leading polling institutions spoke candily about some of the issues facing onilne polling & how these leading to implausible, nonsensical results (like '12% of Gen Z have nuclear submarine licenses').
