It will be a privilege this #RemembranceDay to stand again for Defence Humanists and @humanists.uk at the cenotaph. I will be thinking of the pity of war, the necessity of peace, of all the brave people who have fought for it whether in uniform or as civilians, and of those who grieve.

RE becoming part of the national curriculum is a momentous opportunity to finally build a consistent entitlement for all children.

It will mean, at long last, the subject will be taught fairly and consistently across all types of schools, possibly renamed, and – we expect – will fully include humanism. Asylum decision-makers often expect humanists to have equivalents of holy books, places of worship, or specific rituals, & when claimants cannot point to these structures, it's frequently misinterpreted as evidence that their beliefs are not genuine or deeply held.

Absolutely right from @humanists.uk A hugely disrespectful decision by the House of Lords Committee. How can peers discussing the ‘Terminally Ill Adults’ Bill NOT hear from terminally ill adults and their families? You would not do this to any other group of vulnerable people.

A great pleasure to attend the Inauguration Parade of the 1914 Sikhs, a ceremonial marching troop established to commemorate the Sikh soldiers who have served in the British army, today at Wellington Barracks. And everyone was grateful for an auspicious shower of rain to greet the happy occasion!
