Born on this day in 1832, radical writer, freethinker and abolitionist minister Moncure Conway was born. Arriving in England in 1863, he settled at South Place Chapel and became leader of the then named South Place Religious Society. In 1928, named in his honour, Conway Hall officially opened.

On This Day in 1824, South Place Chapel officially opened in Finsbury, London. Led by William Johnson Fox, the society occupied this building for the next 102 years and the name was reflected in the Society’s name — South Place Ethical Society.
