A near £900-a-year “tax on getting to school” is hitting families across North Yorkshire. Children are being forced onto longer, riskier routes while communities fear for their future. I’ve secured a Parliamentary debate on this very issue. Read more👇

Having reserved spots for a particular religious group in our Parliament is absolutely crackers in the 21st century. Faith leaders can make valuable contributions, but nobody should get an automatic seat in our legislature. Read my comments below👇

Congratulations to my mum on her re-election, along with Cllr Rachel Speak’s. Sadly, we didn’t get Sharon over the line with them. Lib Dems are now the largest opposition party on Wakefield Council & will take on the role of holding the new Reform-run administration to account.

⚖️ I voted against Labour’s Courts & Tribunals Bill. 👩⚖️ Jury trials have been a cornerstone of our justice system for centuries. ❌ These proposals would cut the number of jury trials without tackling the Crown Court backlog, risking further delays to justice for victims.

Too often, national laws change while local authorities lack the power or funding to enforce them on the ground. If restrictions on fireworks are tightened, the Govt must ensure councils have the resources to enforce those rules properly - otherwise it risks being little more than words on a page.

🚨Another Labour U-turn - this time on mandatory digital IDs. A policy doomed from the start. It would have eroded civil liberties, cost billions, & pushed the country in the wrong direction. I welcome the reversal, but it raises serious questions about Labour’s judgement and lack of a clear plan.

Businesses face a triple hit from this govt: higher minimum wages, increased employer NICs and soaring business rates. Across Harrogate & Knaresborough, firms say this is unsustainable. Govt must change course now - cut business rates, scrap the NI hike & back local business, before it’s too late.
