From neglectful landlords to soaring rents and getting trapped in tenancies, renting as a student can be a nightmare. It's vital that they understand their rights under the Renters' Rights Act, so I was pleased to speak to NTU and UoN students about what's changed and what more we must fight for.

The Labour government’s Renters’ Rights Act comes into force today, ending no-fault evictions for 11 million tenants in England. There is, of course, much more to do to address the housing crisis: rents are still at record highs, LHA remains frozen, and leasehold reform is long overdue. [1/2]

Shocked by the suspected arson attack on Pink Punters, an LGBTQ+ club in Milton Keynes. I’m relieved that no one was hurt, given how packed out the club was, but this could have been fatal. Sending my best wishes and solidarity to all those affected.

The Golders Green terrorist attack is absolutely devastating, coming just weeks after the arson attack on Hatzola ambulances in the same area. My thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and the entire Jewish community. [1/2]

Happy Lesbian Visibility Week! It was a pleasure to welcome LGBT+ campaigners to Parliament to celebrate with the Global LGBT+ Rights APPG. From equal access to fertility treatments, to tackling homophobic violence and abuse there is so much for us to fight for both here and around the world.

I’m horrified that the government has announced £660 million to fund riot squads on French beaches, with teargas, shields and batons to be used on refugees fleeing war and persecution. Instead of subjecting desperate people to more violence, we should be opening safe and legal routes.

While frontline services struggle, private firms providing services to the NHS made a £1.6bn profit in two years. This money could have paid for 9,178 doctors or 19,428 nurses. The government must introduce caps on profiteering and ultimately end the reliance on private companies in our NHS.
