Wishing all constituents a peaceful and restful Christmas and New Year. My thoughts are with those celebrating Christmas under occupation and in the face of genocide and war, and the many people for whom this is a difficult time of year for different reasons.

As well as discrimination in general healthcare, years long waiting lists for gender-affirming healthcare are ruining trans people’s lives. We urgently need increased funding for gender-affirming healthcare, improved training for GPs, and to co-produce services with trans patients.

A joy as always to visit Windmill Academy in Sneinton. I met with the school council to discuss a whole range of issues from public transport, to democracy, and our favourite places in Nottingham.

The government has announced an extra £154.5 million in funding for Nottingham over the next three years. This will be transformative for our city and for people’s lives and wellbeing.

There are excellent proposals in the government’s long-awaited VAWG strategy: a focus on prevention and education, specialist support for child sexual abuse survivors in one place, specialist officers in every police force, and a national rollout of domestic abuse protection orders, to name a few.

It was great to meet with my constituent, Appiah, in a lobby of MPs by migrant care workers organised by Unison. The government’s proposals to make migrant care workers wait 15 years before they can apply for settled status are completely unacceptable.

Remember: the imprisoned peaceful protesters on hunger strike have not been convicted of any crime, yet they expect to spend about a year and a half in prison awaiting trial. Everyone has human rights. And theirs are clearly being violated.

In our hundreds we protested outside the Ministry of Justice, demanding the government’s immediate intervention to save the lives of the hunger strikers. We have been raising this in every way possible and we will not stop.

Absolutely thrilled that @andrea4gs.bsky.social has been elected as the new General Secretary of UNISON, with a resounding mandate to put democracy at the heart of the union.

The Employment Rights Bill has now passed both Houses of Parliament. It will implement the most significant uplift for workers’ rights in decades. While more remains to be done in strengthening workers’ rights, this is vital legislation that we must continue to build on.

Qesser Zuhrah and Amy Gardiner-Gibson are on day 46 of their hunger strike. Heba Muraisi is on day 45. All are at a high risk of death. In 1981 - the last time there was a hunger strike like this - Martin Hurson died after 46 days.

Last week, I hosted an event in Parliament about violence at the UK-France border. @asylummatters.bsky.social, Humans for Rights Network, Project Play and others shared reports of horrifying state neglect and violence, including towards children.

Since 2010, Imara has supported over 2,200 children and young people across Notts affected by sexual and domestic abuse. As a trustee, I’ve seen what a lifeline it is for survivors and their families. As part of my salary donation pledge, I’ve donated £4,000 to this life-changing service.

I visited the country’s first NHS National Rehabilitation Centre, which will treat 750 patients each year using groundbreaking technology, helping individuals recover from serious injuries and illnesses. This is a blueprint of what high-quality services could look like in every region.

I'm deeply concerned about the wellbeing of prisoners who were involved in Palestine Action protests, and are currently on hunger strike. Some have not eaten for six weeks. A number have been hospitalised. They are all being held on remand - without trial or conviction.

I’m proud to have voted for the Railways Bill, which will establish Great British Railways, a publicly-owned railway company that will operate most passenger rail services. For passengers, this means frozen fares next year, fewer delays, and a unified ticketing app without booking fees.

Last week, I spoke at a Notts TUC event on how to combat Reform UK and the far-right. I criticised the government’s latest immigration policies and stressed that more than ever, the trade union movement must stand firmly united in the face of rising hate towards migrants.

It was great to meet politics students at Nottingham Trent University to talk about my journey into politics and my role as an MP. We also discussed a range of important issues, including the genocide in Gaza, child poverty, and disability rights.

It was a privilege to host Nottingham Women's Centre in Parliament to discuss its new report on the impact of fines and prosecutions for school absences on women.

I commend the government for taking this hugely important step, alongside £550m funding for specialist support services. These are the policies we need more of.

We all desperately want to clear the courts backlog seeing victims withdraw from the criminal justice process. But the backlog was caused by chronic underfunding, not juries. Restricting jury trials would undermine our democracy and right to a fair trial, and may even be a false economy.

On World AIDS Day, I welcome the government’s HIV Action Plan to tackle stigma and end new transmissions in England by 2030. We should ensure this promise is delivered by reaching the most marginalised communities. We must also boost international funding to maintain global progress against AIDS.

When bad bosses can unfairly dismiss workers from day one, workers must be protected from day one. That’s what we promised in our manifesto. A Labour government must not turn its back on the very people we were elected to represent.

I visited a clinic in Nottingham that provides respiratory care for homeless people, run by @nottmhospitals.bsky.social, alongside Framework Charity, @nottinghamcitycare.bsky.social, and Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

The government is finally scrapping the cruel two-child benefit cap. This decision is long overdue, but I’m relieved for the 450,000 children who will be lifted out of poverty by the end of Parliament. Today’s announcement wouldn’t have been possible without the tireless work of campaigners.

Muslims in the UK continue to face hate crimes, fuelled by Islamophobic and anti-migrant rhetoric from far-right politicians and the media. This Islamophobia Awareness Month, we stand in solidarity with our Muslim friends and neighbours. We must always challenge the normalisation of such hatred.

Last year, violence against women was declared a “national emergency” in England and Wales, with stalking, harassment, sexual assault, and domestic violence affecting an estimated one in 12 women.

The Tories cut 70% of youth services funding in less than a decade. Now, many young people have retreated online, which is impacting their mental health and puts them at risk of radicalisation. A wealth tax can help fund mass investment in the youth services we desperately need.

Nottinghamshire MPs have written to @uniofnottingham.bsky.social, urging the university to reconsider proposed course suspensions and potential closures, which would significantly impact staff, students, and our wider city and county.

The government announced today that it plans to prevent migrants without British citizenship from accessing benefits and social housing. It will also double the period to qualify for settled status from 5 years to 10. 1/2

This is a dark and dangerous path. The government has said it won’t be rushed, and I sincerely hope this means that Ministers will reject any EHRC guidance that further harms trans people. Parliament should instead make clear in legislation that “single-sex spaces” are to be trans-inclusive.

This #TransgenderDayOfRememberance, we remember the over 280 trans people killed globally this year and the many more lost to suicide. They deserved to live safely, without fear, and to be fully who they are. May their memories move us to keep fighting for a world where all trans people are free.

Extremely concerned to see mass arrests of peaceful protesters in Nottingham under anti-terror laws. This is why I opposed Palestine Action's proscription. Conflating terrorism and protest will only continue eroding our rights to free speech.

This is who the government is trying to copy with its anti-refugee policies. Truly strategic geniuses. 4D chess. Well done everyone.

The government claims it wants to stop small boats crossing the Channel, yet its new policies will make it harder for refugees to bring their spouses and children safely. This will push more women and children onto dangerous dinghies. I asked the Home Secretary if this is really what she supports.

The government should be ashamed that its migration policies are being cheered on by Tommy Robinson and Reform. Instead of standing up to anti-migrant hate, this is laying the foundations for the far-right. I questioned the Home Secretary on how she can be proposing such obviously cruel policies.

So the solution is… to join in? I'm afraid the “dark forces” are calling from inside the house at this point.

Solidarity with resident doctors striking in Nottingham and across the country from today. Their pay is 21% lower today in real terms than it was in 2008/9, with a third of doctors planning to leave. A fair settlement is vital to the future of our NHS.
