People should buy
@meganpiont.bsky.social
a drink or 100 for all of the work that she has put in over the past few months. She has created and as a result disseminated 10s of thousands of zines helping folks to know how to report ICE in their cities. This is a Megan appreciation post. Thank you.

I’m old enough to remember that Chuck Schumer once spent years relentlessly fighting for a cause. I can clearly recall him using every leverage point at his disposal and employing a few dirty tricks. Unfortunately, that fight was against a bike lane on his street, right in front of Prospect Park.

I think a lot about the story Carl Reiner told: he’d have been a sewing machine repairman if not for a free WPA drama class. That led to other theater work, to Sid Caesar, to Mel Brooks, and all the rest. All because of one free class paid for by a government that felt the arts were worth teaching.

I’m counting on Mayor Mamdani (that looks really nice in print and sounds good too) to have Open Streets at every elementary school in New York City up and running for the first day of school in Fall 2026—no excuses, no ability for schools to opt out. It’s a no-brainer

I am really excited to see what we can get done with Mayor Mamdani. When it comes to the things a mayor actually has control over, I think there's a lot of opportunity to truly transform the city for the better in lots of ways. Let's goooooooo!

Don’t assume people in your life know anything at all. We are weird for following news. We still need those votes from the people who don’t. In this case my friend was foiled because her mom voted early. So talk early and often.

the only relevant national take about the NYC mayoral election is the one that isn't happening: how outrageous it is that the president is using federal funds as a tool to influence the outcome

In Nov. 2018, Democrats nearly won a supermajority in the state senate. Bail reform passed earlier that year as part of Cuomo’s attempt to shore up his left flank. Until then, he had spent all of his term manuevering (gerrymandering, IDC) to help the GOP hold the state Senate.

If this guy loses I think we're done with everything and I don't mean that in a hyperbolic sense at all. Like if this guy can't get elected, our hearts are too fucking dark to be happy and hope for a brighter future because it'll mean we chose Cuomo

The strangest part of this ad is the “scary” part is just images of the subway. The same subway that me and my kids ride every day. The target audience of this ad is literally people scared of the subway, which is not the 3.4 million people who ride it every day. To me, it’s not dark at all.

My latest — I wrote about Cuomo’s vile racist speed run in the final days of the mayoral campaign, with gross comments on a right wing radio show, an AI video best suited for 4chan, and his weaponization of white and Jewish grievance to beat the would-be first Muslim Mayor of NYC:
