In the mid-2010’s, I started seeing students have a new problem with their data analysis projects: they’d open the stats program, their previous work wouldn’t appear, and they wouldn’t know why. Many students don’t know what files and programs are. The first sections of this are a great reminder.

I love that the problem is so obvious here, my first response was to smile. I am going to have to remember this story. Because I am trying to count the number of times I have seen the same dismissal when the word is a slur or the name of a supremacist group.

Computer Science has one of the biggest gender imbalances in academia. Many research articles have documented its “leaky pipeline,” and the forces, at all of its stages, that push women out. By allowing this person to continue teaching, or supervising, Yale is pushing more women through the leaks.
