Hi, it’s me, your neighborhood robotics business guy, to inform you that if robots were actually ready to automate a process at scale, they would likely already be deployed

One regulation I both badly want and fully anticipate coming to pass: algorithmic transparency right now TikTok is showing everyone six week old content they’ve already seen and the speculation on why is rampant and in a free society a media organ that scale shouldn’t be able to keep that secret

On one hand, these guys know all the ways that Ro Khanna could be vulnerable to attack because their influence played a role in many of his weirdest positions On the other hand, they can’t use those attacks because that would require punching from the left and they need a “moderate” candidate.

lol, there are tens of thousands of ICs, Engineering Managers, and VPEs who live in that district who will crawl over broken glass to vote for anyone who promises to give Sacks a swirly. They could fucking sell tickets.

AI usage being high is not inconsistent with AI backlash. People love to use AI for tasks directed at other people. People dislike it when other people use AI *at them*. Nobody wants to read other people's slop. This doesn't paint AI positively, but also does not predict it will "go away"

Tech history has been a Special Interest basically since I was in elementary school and I forget this is a completely minority position so much of the seething takes today about any given technology make way more sense when I remember people don’t even remember the game as it was 15 years ago

I’m sorry but that comment about streaming and Uber is driving me crazy. “Forcibly replaced”? Reed Hastings didn’t show up at my house with a pistol and make me watch Stranger Things at gunpoint.

Every poster who is all in on AI being a supply-driven fad should be made to explain how ChatGPT is about to hit a billion weekly active users. I worked on 3DTV at Discovery. I followed VR very closely for several years. I know a supply-driven phenomenon when I see one. This ain’t that.

The idea that a billion people are using an app against their will simply does not pass the smell test. Also love the aside about ride sharing and streaming as if pre-smartphone yellow cab dispatches and cable companies were paragons of virtue and hospitality.

I think a major driver of this thinking is that 100+ years of American antitrust law developed to break up monopolies that controlled supply and distribution of physical products. One law review article by Lina Khan is not enough to shift the popular understanding of how companies accrue power.

Seeing this op-ed get dismissed. Yeah, the proposed remedy is self-serving and laughably small. But it is very fair to ask what might happen to a nation of 112 million people (and is in active territorial disputes with China) if 10 percent of GDP disappears within 5 years

a technological paradigm shift of this magnitude has truly socially disruptive effects, and seriously corrosive ones if left unchecked and “what about the status quo for the professor??” is just nowhere near the top of my concern queue (with much love to the academics in my life)

Yeah the anti AI crew (who I agree with on a ton) need to realize that much of this stuff is out in the wild and can be run on consumer level hardware so while we should focus on how large companies use it with regulations, some (most?) of the work will have to be on the societal norms front

The problem with this stance is that students are actively choosing to use these products and very good versions can now be distributed freely over the internet and run locally. You cannot, in fact, cut off the supply. You *might* be able to “tax” it or stochastically punish the use of it.
