Hi, it’s me, your neighborhood robotics business guy, to inform you that if robots were actually ready to automate a process at scale, they would likely already be deployed

Okay but we would be substantially better off if all multiplayer console games had to go back to being 4 people in the same room sharing a plate of pizza bagels between rounds

The Room is the sum total of one man’s neuroses, hopes, fears, dreams, and petty neuroses. Filtered through his unique voice and habits of language. Only Tommy Wiseau, of all the humans ever to live, could have made it. The Room is deeply human. It’s terrible in a way only a human could ever be.

I'm not sure you could get an LLM to generate a script like The Room's. The Room is not just nonsense, it's a very particular shape of nonsense. It's the mirror image of an insightful but soulless essay written by an LLM. You can tell by just looking at them but it's hard to say precisely why.

Tangentially related to this, but I think "so bad it's good" media is a topic of underrated study. Stuff like The Room that gets just enough of the foundation of filmmaking correct that it's watchable, yet fails at every other decision in such an unpredictable manner that you can't look away.

I'm sort of at the point where I don't really think that matters to me anymore. Bernie sucks in some ways, so does AOC, Pritzker, etc. On this particular issue I take a more holistic view where I want to see whether they will just bend to our pressure and if they will then that's good.

“I will NOT sacrifice the Oxford comma. We've made too many compromises already; too many retreats. They assimilate the em dash and we fall back. They capture ‘not just X but y’ and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further!”
