Looking at the cast of The Running Man remake. Is Debi Mazar UK-based now? Her credits recently feature a lot of Europe-shot stuff. She's currently in a recurring role in an RTE thing.

I was listening to the Father Ted commentary and there's a moment where Linehan reflects solemnly, that Ireland isn't entirely a friendly place 'just ask a black person'. And yet twenty years later... He's accusing black men of wearing blackface.

Watching an ep of Three's Company only for the novelty of Bob 'Jeff Ross from the Sandbaggers' Sherman in something actually shot in LA. Katy, his character's sister says she is 25 years old. In reality, Lois Hamilton (Katy) was 37 at the time.

people often evolve in their understanding of trans people once they actually know some, and the girl gang of trans sex workers Francis had lunch with and supported financially after the pandemic wrecked their income knew him better than me; but that doesnât render his bad takes immune to critique

this was obviously one of the first things we all zoomed to Google as soon as we had a name after the conclave, and I think the most anyone found was a yikes quote from 2012, which was pre-Francis, and I am willing to grant a lot of Catholics the grace that Francis sincerely changed their minds

When people say that Wuthering Heights doesn't have anything to do with race or that no film has engaged with race, what they mean is that for them Romani people do not count and they also haven't been paying attention. I'm going to share a little material from a recent talk. Content note: racism 1/

What's even weirder is that the Ian McNeice role of Bert is played by John 'Bender' DiMaggio - who yes is a live action actor, too.

one of the complex legacies of Pope Francis is that he publicly said a lot of very ugly things about âgender ideologyâ, but had personal friendships with a lot of Catholic trans women who felt really supported by him. Leo welcoming them publicly feels like a promising sign. I am EYEING HIM CLOSELY

The significance here isn't that the Pope is groovy or progressive, but rather that the Pope sets the standard for mainstream conservative thought. Which is to say: if you are more right wing than the Pope, you are really very extreme.

When I did my BA there was a book in the Uni library, published late 80s, which argued that British media was trustworthy but European Newspapers always lied, and cited a series of French newspaper stories about Princess Diana attempting suicide and being trapped in a loveless marriage as proof...

Also saw a lib in the wild earnestly suggest we start a petition to get Gary Lineker as BBC's new Director General and it's so cute that they think the world works this way. I feel like there's a well-meaning section of the online electorate who are still in William Blake's Songs of Innocence mode.

This is why the 1971-74 Hamilton/Mankiewicz Bonds were my faves as a kid. Cos they get this. "Kung fu! Christopher Lee! A funhouse! A little guy! A laser gun! A Chinese junk! Comedy sheriff! Robot gangsters and cowboys! A flying car! Britt Ekland in a bikini! A kid falling in a river! Belly dancer!"

Ah yes, the intractable continuity of the James Bond franchise. Sometimes he has a dead wife and sometimes he doesn't. One minute he's at the start of his career and then almost immediately near the end of it. His 'death' feels like a minor inconvenience at best.

The more I think about the new V for Vendetta HBO series, the more I can only conclude that HBO have not thought about it. It's a story about a (trans) terrorist Dr Phibes-ing their way through mainstream right wing types who enabled mediocre fascists to take power.

Yes, "pregnant people" is inclusive language that describes pregnant cis women AS WELL AS trans men and nonbinary people, a lot of whom can get pregnant. But it also describes, like, 12-year-old girls who get pregnant. Do centrist pig-dogs think THEY are "women" too? Coz...bit of a red flag, that.
