Merle Oberon and her mother, Constance Selby, who was born on Sept 11, 1896 in Sri Lanka. Her mother was Sinhalese, her father was white. Constance gave birth to Merle in Bombay in Feb 1911, when she was only 14 years old. Merle would grow up believing Constance to be her half-sister. #OldHollywood

Her birthday isn't until tomorrow but we couldn't wait to wish a happy birthday to Claudette Colbert! Colbert worked in nearly all genre of film but, for us, we love her as a screwball heroine, whether that's in 1942's THE PALM BEACH STORY or 1939's MIDNIGHT.

Stunning Adrienne Ames in a gown that seems to capture the last blooms of summer. Ames began in Hollywood as Pola Negri's stand-in, then moved into supporting roles in films such as Merrily We Go to Hell and You're Telling Me!. She eventually left the business and, sadly, died young of cancer.
