it's just a fact. you can't have a global hegemon who every few years is at risk of electing a lunatic government that will undo treaties, start murdering people in international waters on a whim, stop aid programs, and slap wanton tariffs on the world capriciously. we have no credibility anymore

Hakeem Jeffries voted for Charlie Kirk Day but still isnât sure if heâll endorse Zohran Mamdani. This is why the approval rating of the Democratic Party is lower than Trumpâs or the GOP.

to state the obvious: everyone in the regime believes it is someone else's kids who are going to be stitching the shoes together in the factories. but i think the majority of their supporters also think the factories are for others' kids. there's only so many jobs where you go to yale law like JD

I know itâs not the point, and everyone else has already noted the depravity of these fascists, but they couldnât even bother branding this latest atrocity-in-the-making with a war America officially declared or actually won

My daughter was one of dozens of students arrested at Columbia and then suspended from her PhD program for two years in response--a clear project of the Palestine exception. Jessie runs it all down here. Paywall but you can see a preview at least.

Griffinâs definition of fascism as palingenetic ultranationalismâspecifically a reactionary nostalgia for a lost history of the nation that never existedâremains undefeated. A nostalgia for a type of bread that is ubiquitous, created in the 20th century, and rage towards bread as old as civilisation

I work at DOL and my job is considerably worse now. I have additional bureaucracy to deal with because of DOGE. I have to cover for the 15-20% of people who left the agency because of the DRP. I am not allowed to telework unless I have a doctor's appointment. People can now proselytize in my office.

You could call this poetic justice, that the university that did more to foster extreme neoliberalism than any other is now being punished by that very ideology coming home to them, except that the UChicago economics department will be protected at all costs. It's the others who will suffer.

Apocalypse Now. 1979. The kinetic energy in this sequence is insane â the arrival of Kilgore. No CGI, no post production cheating. The entire backdrop is constantly *moving* â a la Akira Kurosawa. The coordination it must have taken; Coppola even cameos as a filmmaker barking directions.
