Every time our economy transforms—every time we take these great technological leaps forward, working people are the ones who shape that future, so it works for all of us. The labor movement is ready to build a future of work that works for all working people.

As AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Fred Redmond said, we’ve seen tech firms push AI products that have threatened people’s health, safety, privacy and rights. Workers are scared about their futures. Job loss and AI adoption isn’t inevitable. We can protect our jobs and freedoms.

The labor movement is not anti-tech. We’re anti-greed. We’re against tech being used against us, without our input or consent. The decisions we make on A.I. now will impact us 50 years down the road. That’s why we’re fighting for guardrails—to protect our jobs and our freedoms.

We need a workers-first AI agenda that says: NO, you can’t surveil us. NO, you can’t steal our data. NO, you can’t discriminate against us or fire us because a machine said so. We can create a future where our job sites are fair and workers have a voice at the table.

The entertainment industry has been on the front lines of the fight for AI guardrails. From deep fakes, to voice-overs, AI poses a risk to our intellectual property and our privacy rights. Bringing workers into the conversation on how to use AI at work helps protect our rights.

A workers’ first AI agenda means giving workers a voice to decide how new tech is used in the workplace. It means training our workers to be prepared for AI on the job. It means protecting our civil rights and our jobs—that’s the future America’s unions are fighting for.
