One thing I've not seen discussed much in relation to Labour's digital ID plans is digital exclusion. Thousands of people cannot or don't want to use the internet. People in poverty are far more likely to be digitally excluded. Are these people to be excluded from the workforce then?

Providing ID to people in poverty doesn’t require everyone to carry ID. If your aim is to provide ID to people in poverty, you wouldn’t introduce a massive, expensive, controversial requirement to carry ID.

It infuriates me that British journalists, no matter what their background, always join ranks with the elites and try to say they're doing it for 'those in poverty'. You're not going to supply those in poverty with a phone, or free internet. And what is proposed is far larger than our neighbours.

This is a ridiculous argument. The problem is that compulsory ID for voting disenfranchises poorer people. The solution isn't to give everyone an ID. The solution is to remove the request for ID when voting because it was never a problem, just a Tory idea...to disenfranchise poorer people.

I work with those in poverty. Frontline. Many do not have a smart phone, or have a broken phone with smashed screens they cannot replace. Often poor digital skills and and/or poor literacy. It will put up yet another barrier.
