To be honest, I think even without bringing religion into it, you can question the idea of building a gold statue of someone. I greatly admire many, many people; I cannot think of one I think it would be un-weird to honor with a gold statue.

Is it weird that I simply don't care whether it's false flag or not? So much has happened. So much keeps happening. So much more will happen. Nobody died. I just can't muster a strong feeling about whether I'd rather this were a case of an incompetent assassin or an incompetent political strategy.

I’m *really* bummed out. So tired of being violated by right-wing governments. So tired of big tech. So tired of having no hope. I realize I’m exceedingly lucky; I have a job and can afford to live, but it’s all while knowing we’re on a collision course with our own stupidity.

My hottest “I have no data to back this up” take is that phones aren’t making young people less happy. What’s making them less happy is living in a world where everyone is having their reality defined by recommendation algorithms that can only care about whether something keeps you watching.

"sex doesn't belong in YA books" Listen, I learned more about birth control, menstruation, and how to get and give consent to different acts from Tamora Pierce books than I did from my school. There's a huge difference between smut and showing teens what healthy sexuality is.

Like… We cannot go ahead and have the World Cup now like nothing is going on. Regardless of what does or doesn’t happen tonight. Countries should simply refuse to send teams. The rest of the world cannot treat us as a remotely normal country after this

I'm the daughter of an Army paratrooper who refused orders during our illegal invasion of Vietnam back in the day. He went to LBJ military jail. Dad taught his girls this: "Just following orders" is NEVER any excuse for anyone who's complicit in war crimes. You MUST refuse heinous orders.

i can't help but note, as i listen to the NASA livestream, that all the most meaningful parts of the artemis mission are the human ones. nothing artificial can top organic intelligence, and all that blooms from our connections.

NASA isn't why the US doesn't have universal healthcare, or a social safety net. The US doesn't have those things because politicians with the power to provide them choose specifically not to (with varying levels of support from voters). Enthusiasm for human spaceflight doesn't drive that choice.

Hate speech is not free speech, and I don't give a damn what SCOTUS says about it anymore. Our legal system is not. working. It is wrong to attempt to deny people the right to be who they are, and this country needs to get over itself and let people exist as they choose. Enough.

"The study...suggests 1/3 Americans could be breathing summer air considered unhealthy for sensitive groups by 2100, a 7-fold increase compared to the turn of this century." clean air—indoor & outdoor—is an urgent necessity for us to address; it behooves you to get comfortable with respirator use.

How do people still not get that Star Trek is not about the spaceships or the phasers? It was always about using sci-fi settings to explore the human condition and be a social commentary on the times we live in. The fun sci-fi shit was just a bonus.
