reposted this today because the inverse is also true: if you abandon trans people right now, you are abandoning civil rights period. if you can't stand up for trans people when it matters, no one should, or will, ever trust you when the bullseye moves to the next target.

There are trans people who think living loudly out and proud is bad, that we must assimilate to avoid giving conservatives ammunition. I disagree. No bigoted society can tell us who we are. If you have to blend into a society to be respected, you're not really respected. You're broken and trained.

That's why I think professionalism or decorum are so often white supremacy, that hair codes and rules which discriminate against racialized people are evil, that dress codes are oppression. Making people conform to a single societal standard of being is always and everywhere wrong, full stop.
