Christmas is not the 'most wonderful time of the year' for many people. I wanted to take some time to explore what hospitality venues are doing to combat loneliness at this vulnerable time and drop them all into a handy directory on my blog.

My favourite of this week’s Six Things. A 2-minute film about the guys employed to drive the route of a Tour de France stage beforehand and alter anything painted on the road by fans that might be unsuitable for broadcast. Here they are turning a cock and balls into an owl.

Serial killer who only kills people who have incorporated genAI so thoroughly into their personal and work life that no one will notice they are dead for a while. His victims continue to send meaningless emails for weeks while he happily tortures them, the evidence trail growing ever colder.

Today— May 10 —marks the anniversary of the destruction of the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, a pioneering clinic and library of human sexuality. Nazis looted and publicly burned its research, records and artifacts to bury evidence of trans/queer existence. The parallels today are unmistakable.

15 years ago. The day the UK PM called a bigot a bigot, and the UK media blew up as if it he wasn't correct, rather than ignoring it as a non-story, was the first warning shot of the far-right weaponisation of identity politics which has brought us all to our knees in a fascist dystopia.

Ian, who greets customers at Chintys cafe in Keswick, is a keen walker. When his fitness-tracker watch broke, he turned to writing/drawing a journal instead. Thank goodness! The four volumes he's created so far are wonderful..

One of the more unusual footpaths in Cumbria (actually a bridleway) takes you from Dalegarth station to the former miners' cottages - along a railway line. It's a bridge over a stream. Fear not? the La'al Ratty steam train will wait for you.

New blog post! Here I discuss the strange response from *some* fellow pub workers to me taking an extended period of time off, and reflect on why the hospitality industry needs to move away from it's toxic culture of martyrdom if it is to survive.

We Don’t Need Another Hero
The culture of the hospitality, and specifically the pub, industry needs to change if we are going to have any chance of surviving the threat posed by late stage capitalism.
