pinned post!
New introduction post seeing as we've had a lot more new followers. Hi, I'm Steve and I'm a beer and brewing historian. Which basically means I research and write about the societal history of beer from a holistic viewpoint. Every aspect of beer is entwined with every other aspect, and without...

Once again for the hard of thinking: streaming shouldn't count towards the chart unless you've specifically chosen to stream the song in question. If it turns up randomly on someone else's plalylist or by Alexa's whim, you haven't chosen to listen to it so it shouldn't count.

Breal bought a slew of unloved brands and then engaged in a damaging race to the bottom. This was the inevitable conclusion and the only surprise is that it has taken this long. My thoughts are with the blameless employees that will be affected by their failure.

Got a drinking session actually planned for later, as opposed to the random ones I seem to have, so a bit more of a hefty lunch today. Chicken cooked in peanut and chilli sauce with spicy fried veg and plain white rice.

I'm watching way too much YouTube stuff recently. But one thing I've "discovered" is not to take any of the popular presenters seriously until after you see them talking about a subject you know about. And realise how little they actually know and how much utter bollox they're getting away with 🤣

I was going to make chicken satay and rice for dinner tonight, but this lethagy I just can't seem to shake off is having other ideas. I think dinner instead will be a pot noodle and some more sake 🤣

I often wonder if there are people in the world of wine or whisky putting Oreos or breakfast cereal in those drinks and calling it modern and creative.

Today's level of laziness has got to the point where I'm now drinking sake because I couldn't be bothered to go downstairs to make a cup of tea, but did have the remains of a bottle of sake up here in the office 🤣

Seems everyone is off to the
@britbeerwriters.bsky.social
awards in London today, and even though some of my work is part of a shortlisted entry, I'm sat at home drinking tea 🤣 Might have to move onto the alcohol soon though. It's either that or go out and get some milk. 🤣

I wish I was surprised. Buried in this Budget is a plan to slash the Digital Services Tax, giving a multi-billion tax cut to US tech giants and the likes of Elon Musk. That's right, cutting taxes for the world's richest man while hiking them for millions of hard-working Brits.

Grand opening, grand closing. X quietly disabled a new feature that showed which country an account was posting from when it revealed that lots of popular right wing MAGA accounts were being run from foreign countries like India and Nigeria.

I feel like I should write a "Rules for Yuletide Drinking" article. Not aimed at those who only "go out" in seasonal occasions, but at everyone who bemoans their pub being empty and wonders why without realising they might be the ones putting others off coming in more often.

Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays: Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink. If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business. Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

I'm getting tempted by the idea of getting a treadmill because I just don't get out to exercise at the moment. Just thinking of one of those fold up ones, but I'm really not sure it's worth it, or if it'll end up not being used. :-/

A lot of the local beer and cider on tap at the festival could be in more pubs if it weren't for our outdated licensing system. Consider joining CAMRA and lending your voice to the campaign for a fairer deal for our local producers.
