I asked the chefs to make Carbonnade Flamande for Belgian Beer Week, and they really delivered. Beef marinated over night in Bruges Zot Brun, browned off with lardon and then stewed with veg, served with frites. Insanely delicious.

Pint and Book no.1 this week has been Golden Son by Pierce Brown. The second book in the Red Rising Series and by far the better. The pint was Allendale Brewery Vienna Pale which was ok if not unbalanced.

Pint and book this week was Madeline Miller's 'Circe' and Bradfield Brewery's XX Bitter. Not a drop I would normally touch but the other two beers that were on were ones I really don't like. The book was great. The pint was very well kept and better than expected.

I will be taking my annual trip to Newcastle this Sunday. I've got 3 nights up that way, and I'm genuinely tempted to dedicate one of my days to just sitting in The Free Trade all day with a book.

Changing jobs has meant I've got my Mondays back, playing chess and doing the pub quiz with my mate. Remarkably I won from this position (which is a losing position after RxB6, NxD2 and RxB7). And we also won the quiz for the second week in a row!

If you ask for your sani/burger with no salad or sauce because you are a picky eater, that's fine. However, that won't fit onto the ticket I print for the kitchen, so I will be writing "BABY FOOD" as my instructions to the chefs.

Had a friend round last night for dinner and dirty martinis. There is a terrifyingly close to empty bottle of vodka, which was unopened this time yesterday, sitting on the counter. My head really hurts.
