Travelling home after another week on the road. Relishing the thought of spending a whole week in my own house for the first time in almost two months.

I'll tell you what's fascinating about receiving ~40 pitches in 24 hours, is the vast majority of these ideas are memoir/autobiographical based, and not reporting. If I can give one piece advice to writers its to de-centre yourself and write about the thing, people aren't that interest in your lore.

Anyway, there is a new Cardiacs album out today for those who partake in such a genre, and I do, very much.

I genuinely love JR’s writing and read his columns every week without fail, but I’m not sure I’d personally be able to say “the Devonshire’s had enough attention, try the Guinea Grill” with a straight face.

I am absolutely fuming. Several substacks have taken our free pitching guide, stuck it behind their paywall, and then issued a call for pitches without our knowledge or consent. The one I did contact offered no apology or remorse, and argued that the information was freely available on Google.

I have, regrettably, found the substack which this week shared our pitching guide verbatim without our permission or contacting us. Apologies to those of you who’ve been mislead. To reiterate, calls for pitches will only come direct from ourselves.

For Pellicle, I visited the UK’s oldest maltster, French & Jupps. Which specialises entirely in crystal and ‘patent’ roasted malts. This is part history of a company dating back to 1689, part technical look at how these malts are made, and why it matters in terms of the beer we drink.

Yesterday began with me getting hopelessly overwhelmed in the Allagash parking lot and ended with oysters and a giant clam bake at Eventide Oyster Co. There was a lot of beer in between and wine at the end. I am feeling a touch worse for wear.
