Olomoucká Citadela, Olomouc 🇨🇿 8th visit. Just gets better by the year, from Medieval theme pub to genuine locals hangout, including a post-grad crowd. Topolsky 10° is another beaut. An unmissable, brilliant pub in the city. 🍻👍

U Kuděje, Olomouc 🇨🇿 I could eloquently expound on the finer points & nuances that make this pub good. There's also a 2nd option, which I'm taking. This is a 𝙁***𝙞𝙣𝙜 fantastic pub! Go here! 🍻👍

U Floriana, Olomouc 🇨🇿 6th visit. A proper drinking den. Used to have a python 🐍 just the goldfish now. A bunker, I have had some fun, fun times here. The offering is simple: 1 beer for nowt. Vyhoukana Sova could learn something from the lived-in interior & the personality this has 👍🍻

Vyhoukana Sova, Olomouc 🇨🇿 1st visit. The Hooting Owl 🦉 Half-step basement bar. Rum specialists but good beer selection too, Vorkloster 10° from Tišnov a great of its style. Busy since the photos. Hasn't exploited the great potential of this space though. Plain, café-like.

Drápal, Olomouc 🇨🇿 2nd visit. If you're a traditionalist, can't drag yourself away from brown/green/gold delights of Pilsner Urquell, this is the place to come here. Exemplary beer, clean as a whistle. Fun seeing eyeroll at tourists ordering Svíčková when locals are too!😅👍🍻

Pivovar Twinberg, Olomouc 🇨🇿 1st visit. Fun train 🚂 ride thru the city to Řepčín but bus is your more reliable, frequent option. Modern out of town brewpub. Nice terrace. Sadly bland interior but artwork + the brewkit on show helps. Excellent tapping of the 12°. Event yesterday so v quiet today👍🍻

Pivovar Moritz, Olomouc 🇨🇿 1st visit. Had put this on the backburner a long time, possibly knowing there'd be a Sunday 11am when it'd be convenient. Today's the day. Basement brewpub, classic inter-war era décor. Polotmavé (Semi-dark) is decent, 54kc. Looking forward to the day ahead! 🍻👍

Hospůdka u Kovaříku, Sady 🇨🇿 1st visit. Deeper into Moravian obscurity. Near Kunovice station. Village pub atmosphere punctured by St Wenceslas Day revellers. Bernard 10/12 Nefiltr for 35/43. Both fresh as a daisy. Really another world. Good fun! 👍🍻

Hospůdka u Pepy, Kunovice 🇨🇿 1st visit. Dragged myself from St. Wenceslas Day celebrations to this backstreet garden & lovely pub. Classic Krčma style boozer with eye opening prices (35kc for Hrádek 10°) 🍕 for hungry folk, playground for kids. I'm enjoying the cosy interior 🍻👍

Thankfully I somehow made the 🚂 connection! Pivovar Rotor, Kunovice 🇨🇿 1st visit. A 3 min train ride from Uherské Hradiště then 15 min walk. 8/9 options on tap from a brewery fuelled by Biomass. 2 terraces and a playground, popular with cyclists 🚲 🍻

Micro Bar, Manchester 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 1st visit. Arndale Centre. If you don't start at the right entrance it can be awkward to find. Oktoberfest keg takeover, 3 x cask including the Boddingtons revival. Excellent fridge selection. Pinball & Jukebox. Unavoidable market trade atmosphere sadly. 🍻👍

Brno 🇨🇿 This weekend it has been my pleasure to meet Franz Hofer, aka Tempest in a Tankard and show him around a city I know well. On the up, cosmopolitan but also distinctly of itself. It does things differently to Prague. A real treat every time. 👍🍻

Ružinovsky pivovar Komín, Bratislava 🇸🇰 1st visit. Summer continues in central Europe! Neighbourhood brewpub nr a market. 11° ležák is banging. Hoppy & crisp. Chimney, brewkit & terrace the highlight, interior not very distinctive. Easy to reach from the 61 Airport->Station Bus🍻👍

Nice afternoon in Hull 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 yesterday visiting old faves & 1st visit to The New Clarence, Hull's first community owned pub. Drinks selection very decent. They've done a reasonable job with the interior they inherited too, though it will take a while for the place to grow into their surroundings👍🍺

Minibrowar Reden, Chorzów 🇵🇱 1st visit. Katowice conurbation. Little trad basement pub with nano brewery. 5 taps, fair prices. Atmosphere last-gen with audience to match, but that's fine. Silesian Czech/German influence notable. Based opposite an absolutely stunning Art Nouveau building 🍻👍

Biała Małpa, Katowice 🇵🇱 2nd visit. Not many bars open before 4pm earlier in the week so a welcome lunchtime opening. Courtyard bar with Mexican café & craft beer taproom. Needs customers to shine but hey, the beer selection is awesome. The new Schlenkerla á la Grodziskie is delicious!🍺👍

Oficyna, Zabrze 🇵🇱 1st visit. 6 mins on train here. This conurbation is Silesian Tokyo. Where does it begin and end? Super atmospheric bar, even if it's Monday and quiet it doesn't take much imagination. Pizza, enormous tiled fireplace, lamps, Czech beer on tap. I'm satisfied! 🍕🍺👍🔥

Stary Kufel, Gliwice 🇵🇱 1st visit. Small really well put together bar with lamps like Chury in Warsaw. Good lighting just makes a place. 6 craft taps & cocktails, a genuine all-rounder. Just off the old town square. A very good option 🍸 🍻 👍

It's a shame so many beer fanatics cream themselves over *any* venue that has a wide range of fresh beer, because that hype really deserves to go to a bar that does everything well. Drinks, food, service, décor, lighting, acoustics, prices. Like this one. High praise ought to mean something 👍

IBU, Gliwice 🇵🇱 1st visit. As you know I don't include bars on our guide just because of a row of beer taps. The venue has to work. Fair's fair, this is a superb modern craft beer bar. Tap your own beers from a terminal of 18-20 choices. Social around the taps, tasteful, twinkly interior too 🍻👍

Pod Jesiolami, Tychy 🇵🇱 1st visit. Now we're cooking! Backstreet boozer between station+ centre. Décor commemorates Ryszard Riedel, late lead singer of rock band Džem. Svijanský from 🇨🇿 on tap. It's on form! Really good, characterful bunker and relieved to be giving Tychy at least one guide entry! 🍻👍

Tychy, Poland 🇵🇱 gets the short straw to host European Bar Guide on a Monday afternoon. Almost no pubs open. Almost. Gol. Piwiarna near the football stadium saves the day. Fairly busy in here too. Trophies on the shelves, Tyskie, Ksiasece & Pilsner on the taps. ⚽🏆🍻

Přístav na Balkáně, Ostrava 🇨🇿 1st visit. Middle of nowhere green space between Poruba and the main city. Surprise seafaring theme. Radegast territory and cheap. A nice little pub, most outside enjoying a balmy evening. 🍻👍

Žíznivý dromedár, Ostrava-Jih 🇨🇿 1st visit. Thirsty 🐪 Brewery in south Ostrava badlands (pretty calm, colourful & pleasant today). Simple Czech styles pitched at local tastes & wallets tho superior to many big brands. Venue itself a non-event, sadly. Function room tier. 🍻

Hospůdka u Oráče, Ostrava-Jih 🇨🇿 1st visit. 2 buses and a wander through the maze of tower blocks to find this neighbourhood boozer. Rotating multitap range of beers from smaller indy brewers. Personalised, knockabout interior & front yard. Not too many Ostrava pubs like this!🍻👍

Pivovar Svatovar, Lipník nad Bečvou 🇨🇿 1st visit. Lovely little town & this brewpub reminded me of a Franconian Brauereigaststätte. Not sure about the chequered floor but otherwise a casual, social hangout spot. Wide range of tap beers. 12° delicious & their beer is criminally underrated on Untappd👍🍻
