The Guide is saddened to hear of the passing of beer writer Des de Moor. He was generous in sharing his extensive knowledge of the London beer scene and it was always a pleasure to cross paths and compare notes. RIP Des, the next beer is for you 🍻

A specific loss to beer writing. A general loss to wider civilisation. The most civilised, decent of people. A man with a wide, affectionate curiosity about what makes life better.

I was gutted to hear this awful news. Des was just the loveliest, kindest & most generous person. Hugely knowledgeable & always happy to share information & exchange notes & views. He will be sorely missed. Condolences to Ian & the whole family.

This is such sad news to find out. Des de Moor was an absolute gentleman and supported us when we first opened, including featuring our newly opened bar in his book. A true purveyor of pubs, good beer and wonderful people. He will be missed by so many people.

I’m very saddened to hear about the death of Des de Moor. I think a lot about the pints we had one night in South London where he held court, sang songs and was so warm to everyone
